Not quite a goddess in the traditional sense but more on the mortal realm would be Hypatia. The last keeper of the library at Alexandria, Egypt. By all accounts she was a mathetician, biologist, playwright, physicist, astronomer, writer, historian, philosopher and doctor. She was also a pagan. She was murdered in 415(?) by a Christian mob that accounts suggest flensed the skin off of her body and burned the remains on a pyre of books taken from the library. The library having been partially destroyed was in the process of being rebuilt under Hypatia's oversight. Even at that time it was the single largest repository of information in the ancient world. Part of the reason was that Alexandria was one of the main trading sea ports in the world and when ships would enter laden with goods the crew was quarantined to their boats while every map, document, manuscript, clay tablet was temporarily confiscated where it was rushed to the library and copied by a small army of scribes to add the information to the library's collection. The original materials were then handed back to the ship's captain and the crew were released to plow their trade. I think her life speaks volumes about who we can be and what we can achieve if given the opportunity. s'cuse for getting a bit off the original topic.

I can't say I have a favorite. I love all aspects of the Goddess and of my self. I love her fierceness and her tenderness. I love her ability to destroy and create. I can barely begin to touch upon all her faces at one time. What I can say is that along with working with her many sides there is always at least one if not two or three specific goddesses that I work with at a time. It is she and her Self that chooses me. For now Mary (mother) is who has gently filled my space. My relationship with Mary is much different than the Catholic church though. For now she is in my life for the intense Mothering energy that is needed for me and some of the people around me, including my daughter. She is there to witness my life and emotion, to cry for me, and help me cry. She is here to protect and heal my wounded heart of an abandoned daughter. thanx for the question Blessings, Jessie

My favorite Goddess is Quan Yin. I relate to her desire to relive suffering from fellow man. I feel very sad when I see others who suffer and can't release themselves from it. It makes me want to cuddle them up and take them home but this is not practical still there are other ways that we can help them. Quan Yin has said that she will only enter heaven after each sentient being has entered before her. I admire her dedication and strength. I aspire to that strength and dedication.
